Is an SSD upgrade still worth it in 2026?

Slow boot times and laggy apps? A modern NVMe drive is still one of the best upgrades you can make — here's what to look for before you buy.

If your laptop or desktop still runs on an old spinning hard drive, upgrading to an SSD is the single most noticeable performance boost you can get — often for less than the cost of a new machine.

For everyday use, a SATA SSD is fine. For gaming, content creation, or heavy multitasking, NVMe M.2 drives offer faster load times and smoother workflows. Check your motherboard or laptop specs first: not every machine supports NVMe, and some older models only have one M.2 slot.

Capacity matters too. Windows plus apps comfortably fit on 512GB; gamers and creators should aim for 1TB or more. At MZE Computers we stock a range of internal and external SSDs, and we can clone your existing drive so you keep all your files.

Not sure what's compatible? Bring your device to our Atlantis store or WhatsApp us a photo of your specs — we'll recommend the right drive and handle the install if you need it.
